Apple’s Sept. 9 keynote: foldable iPhone and the Ternus era begins

Apple officialises sa keynote du 9 septembre : iPhone pliable et transition à l’ère Ternus

Apple confirms its Sept. 9 keynote at 7 PM (Paris time), with the iPhone 18 Pro and the first iPhone foldable on the agenda. New CEO John Ternus will make his public debut.

The date and venue are set

Invitations were sent on August 26. The event will take place at the Steve Jobs Theater, Apple Park, with a simple slogan: “A new day. Soon.” The live stream will be available on apple.com, the Apple TV app, and Apple’s YouTube channel.

What’s changed since our last article

Our previous article already mentioned the arrival of the iPhone 18 Pro and the first foldable model. Since then, Apple has confirmed the date and time, and clarified that the standard iPhone 18 will not be unveiled on that day — it will wait until spring 2027.

Another new development: this keynote will mark John Ternus’s first public appearance as CEO, following the transition from Tim Cook in early September. The former hardware engineering lead will oversee the announcements himself.

The foldable iPhone: a book-like format, technical trade-offs

Rumors point to a “passport” design (book-like format), with an internal screen of around 7.8 inches, similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8. Sources agree on two major compromises: no Face ID, replaced by a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, and no telephoto lens.

The price is expected to exceed €2,000 in Europe, with a potential launch delay due to production challenges. Stocks could be limited by year-end, as was the case with the iPhone X in 2017.

The iPhone 18 Pro: few changes, but a new chip

The design of the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max would remain close to that of the iPhone 17 Pro. The main upgrade would be the A20 Pro chip, built on a 2 nm process — a first for an iPhone. It would integrate WMCM (Wafer-Level Multi-Chip Module) technology, already used in the Mac mini M6, for a modular design.

This chip could also feature a dual Neural Engine, like the M6 in Macs, to boost AI capabilities. A variable aperture on the main camera is also expected.

What else?

Apple is also expected to announce new AirPods, the release date of iOS 27 (unveiled in June at WWDC), and possibly new Apple Watch models. No Mac announcements are expected, as the brand already revealed its Mac mini and Mac Studio with M6 and M5 Ultra chips on August 25.

On Sept. 9, Apple won’t just unveil products — it will begin a new era, with a different CEO and a risky bet on the foldable smartphone market. The question remains: can it succeed, seven years after Samsung?
