Google unveiled its 2026 lineup at its Made by Google event: smarter Pixel 11 smartphones, a health-focused Pixel Watch 5, and its first tracker, the Pixel Tag. Here’s what’s actually new.
The Pixel 11 smartphones: redesigned and smarter
The Pixel 11 series comes in three models: Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, and Pixel 11 Pro XL. Google has refined the design with a less prominent and more stable camera bar, as noted by Android Police. The Pro versions feature a new notification LED called HiLite on the camera bar — a novelty whose usefulness is already debated. The Pixel 11 Pro Fold, meanwhile, is lighter, more durable, and equipped with a new main camera, according to Google’s official blog.
On the software side, Google highlights built-in AI tools like Magic Capture, Rambler, or HiLight, designed to simplify daily tasks. These features rely on the Gemini ecosystem, which can now connect to third-party services to manage projects or organize trips.
Pixel Watch 5: health and precision first
The Pixel Watch 5 stands out with under-the-hood improvements: more accurate GPS for tracking running, hiking, or cycling routes, and emergency detection for respiratory arrest, which automatically alerts emergency services. Google also emphasizes proactive alerts and tools for monitoring physiological changes, in collaboration with Fitbit. Performance is optimized, and the integration of Gemini AI enables smoother interactions with reduced latency.
Pixel Tag: Google’s tracker takes on the competition
The Pixel Tag is Google’s first tracker, designed to locate keys, wallets, or luggage. It uses Ultra-Wideband (UWB) and Bluetooth 6.0 with Channel Sounding for meter-precise accuracy, compatible with a wide range of devices. It also offers reverse search (finding your phone via the tracker) and a claimed 300-day battery life. Its integration with the Find Hub network allows locating an object even out of Bluetooth range, via other connected devices.
However, Android Police points out limitations: no USB-C charging, no "left behind" alert (unlike competitors like Chipolo Loop or Moto Tag 2), and a bulky design that requires a case. With 600 days of battery life for the Moto Tag 2 and more complete features elsewhere, the Pixel Tag struggles to stand out, despite its sleek design and native integration with the Google ecosystem.
Accessories and other announcements
Google also introduced new accessories for the Pixel 11, as well as updates for the Pixel Buds Pro 2 and Pixel Buds 2a, with new colors and improved features. The event, hosted by Trevor Noah, confirmed a strategy: targeting a mainstream audience with a more accessible presentation, as noted by The Verge.
Google confirms its commitment to linking hardware and software for ever more integrated devices. While the Pixel 11 and Watch 5 make progress on key points, the Pixel Tag shows the brand still has work to do to compete with tracker market leaders.
