Meta now offers a dedicated Mac app for its AI assistant. It allows sharing an application window for contextual advice and includes voice dictation usable in any software.
A lightweight, native, and pro-oriented app
The app, available in beta version 1.0, weighs 16 MB once installed. It runs natively on Macs with Apple (Apple silicon) chips under macOS 15 or later, with an interface based on AppKit, SwiftUI, and WebKit. Unlike other solutions, it is neither an Electron app nor an adaptation of the iPad version.
It primarily targets businesses and content creators. For the latter, Meta AI connects to professional Facebook and Instagram accounts, as well as Google Workspace, to access documents, spreadsheets, or other work data. A screen-sharing feature allows the AI to analyze the content displayed in a window to provide tailored responses.
Mac-specific features
The app offers dedicated shortcuts. The Option + Space shortcut opens a compact input field, overlaid on the current app. A voice dictation feature lets you dictate text in any application (Mail, code editors, etc.) by holding a keyboard shortcut.
Screen sharing requires Screen Recording and Accessibility permissions. The app then captures visible text and a screenshot to contextualize requests. It does not yet allow computer control, unlike competitors like Claude or ChatGPT.

An AI that taps into Meta data
The assistant can analyze post performance (reach, likes, shares, saves) on Facebook and Instagram to suggest content. It also leverages professional account and web data to create materials or automate repetitive tasks, such as weekly performance updates.
Meta states that interactions with its AI tools may be used to train its models. The app remains free, but some advanced features (such as higher request limits) require a Meta One subscription.

A rapid expansion strategy
This Mac app is part of a series of recent launches. In April 2026, Meta replaced Llama with Muse Spark. In May, the AI gained more natural voice conversations and camera-based assistance. July saw the arrival of image generation via Muse on Meta AI, WhatsApp, and Instagram, followed by a quick removal of a feature generating images from public Instagram posts. More recently, Meta launched Muse Code, a coding agent for terminal on macOS and Linux.
With this app, Meta strengthens its position against competitors like Google (Gemini) or OpenAI (ChatGPT), already present on desktop. The difference? Meta bets on integration with its social and advertising ecosystem, a boon for professionals already active there.
