Samsung will integrate a custom widget creation feature in One UI 9.5, likely inspired by the Create My Widget tool from Google. This option, spotted in a test build, would allow users to design tailored widgets via natural language descriptions, with a release expected in early 2027.
An AI-powered widget creation tool
A leak published on August 20, 2026 reveals a "My Custom Widget" option in a preliminary version of One UI 9.5. This feature, spotted by the account @fahadalijaved, is directly inspired by Create My Widget, announced by Google during its Android Show event on May 12, 2026. The latter allows generating a widget from a natural language request, such as "display my daily tasks and a shortcut to share them."
The Samsung version, named "My Custom Widget" in the screenshots, currently appears limited to the manufacturer’s native apps. One screenshot shows a widget combining calendar tasks and events with a quick share button. No confirmation yet exists regarding third-party app integration, including those from Google.
A dependency on Gemini Intelligence and a tight schedule
Create My Widget relies on Gemini Intelligence, the AI integrated into Android 17. Google announced its rollout on Pixel and Galaxy devices "by the end of summer 2026." The first Samsung smartphones compatible with Gemini Intelligence are the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Z Flip 8, shipped with One UI 9.0. If Samsung’s feature is just a rebrand of Google’s, these models should be the first to benefit, after an update to One UI 9.5.
One UI 9.5 is expected for early 2027. The Galaxy S27 series should be the first to include it natively, while existing models will receive the update gradually. No precise date has been confirmed, and the leaked screenshots do not guarantee immediate deployment: this is a development version.
Modular and interactive widgets
The shared screenshots show a widget with a modular structure, where two elements coexist in the same tile. For example, a widget can display both calendar information and messages, with integrated interactive action links. This approach resembles Samsung’s Daily Brief, an existing feature that aggregates personalized information but is still considered underdeveloped.
Google mentioned various use cases during its announcement: weather alerts, countdowns to events, or surfacing personalized topics. The concrete limits of the feature will only be known upon its actual deployment.

A question of compatibility and ecosystem
Sources agree on one point: initially, custom widget creation may be limited to Samsung apps. If confirmed, this restriction would reduce the feature’s usefulness for users reliant on third-party apps. No information has leaked about a potential extension to other services or a business model (subscriptions, etc.).
If Samsung confirms this integration, One UI 9.5 could mark a turning point in mobile interface customization. It remains to be seen whether the tool will be as flexible as Google’s and whether it can establish itself amid Android’s ecosystem fragmentation.
