Samsung is developing a wireless over-ear headset, codenamed Galaxy H1, to compete with high-end models from Sony and Apple. A release is expected in 2027, featuring active noise cancellation and the SSC UHQ codec.

A return to the over-ear headphone market

Samsung has not sold an over-ear headset since the Level Over in 2014, which featured 50 mm dynamic drivers, active noise cancellation (ANC), and touch controls. The new model, spotted in the Galaxy Wearable app, confirms its return to this segment.

The headset, currently identified by the codename Galaxy H1, is expected to include Bluetooth 6.0, the SSC UHQ codec (already present on the Galaxy Buds 4 Pro), and ANC. These features would position it directly against the Sony WH-1000XM6 (400 £ / 450 $ / 699 AU$) or the Apple AirPods Max 2 (499 £ / 549 $ / 999 AU$).

Unclear specs, 2027 release expected

Technical details remain limited. Rumors suggest deep integration with the Galaxy ecosystem, including via the AI assistant, multi-device compatibility, and extended battery life. Samsung could also leverage the expertise of its subsidiary JBL, a specialist in high-end audio headsets.

No exact date has been confirmed, but multiple sources agree on a 2027 release. Leaks are expected to increase in the coming months as the launch approaches.

A market dominated by three players

The premium over-ear headphone segment is currently shared between Sony, Bose, and Apple. Samsung, absent for over a decade, is betting on optimized software and hardware integration with its devices (smartphones, tablets) to stand out.

If Samsung delivers on its promises, this headset could disrupt a previously stable market. The question remains whether the Korean giant can win over audiophiles, accustomed to current benchmarks.
