Amazon brings free Alexa+ to Fire TV, no Prime needed

Amazon is offering its Alexa+ voice assistant for free on all compatible Fire TV devices in the US, with no Prime subscription required. The update rolls out automatically and covers Fire TV Stick, Fire TV Cube, and Fire TV OS-powered smart TVs.

Alexa+ unlocked, but not everywhere

Since August 19, 2026, Fire TV device owners in the US can use Alexa+ at no extra cost, even without a Prime subscription. Supported devices include the latest Fire TV Stick models, Fire TV Cube, Amazon Ember TVs, and partner-branded models (Hisense, Panasonic) with Alexa+ and Fire TV OS.

No action is required: the rollout is automatic. Amazon notes that this free access is limited to Fire TV devices. For Echo speakers, Alexa+ still requires a Prime subscription or a dedicated plan.

This move comes in a competitive landscape. Google TV already offers its AI assistant, Gemini, for free. Amazon appears to be trying to prevent consumers from switching to less restrictive alternatives.

For now, the free access to Alexa+ on Fire TV does not extend to other advanced features, such as Routines, access to specific moments recorded by Ring cameras, or advanced smart home modes. These options remain reserved for Prime subscribers or Echo speaker users.

The rollout is currently limited to the US. Amazon mentions a gradual expansion to other devices and regions, with no specific timeline. In France, Alexa+ has been available in early access on Echo products for a few months.
