GeForce NOW lands on Firefox for cloud gaming without downloads

NVIDIA is expanding its GeForce NOW cloud gaming service to the Firefox browser on Windows. Players can now stream games directly from their browser, with no installation required, offering up to 1440p and 120 FPS for Ultimate subscribers.

Simplified access to cloud gaming

Since August 20, 2026, Firefox has joined Chrome, Edge, and Opera as a supported browser for GeForce NOW on Windows. Setup is immediate: simply download the latest version of Firefox, visit play.geforcenow.com, and start playing. The service leverages RTX-powered servers to deliver a smooth experience without using local storage.

Ultimate subscribers get a maximum resolution of 1440p and a refresh rate of 120 frames per second. Other plans (Performance or free) retain their usual limits. No controller is required to play via Firefox, as is already the case with Chrome or the dedicated app.

A months-long technical collaboration

Integrating Firefox required months of work between NVIDIA and Mozilla. Ajit Varma, Firefox lead, calls this partnership a "historic moment" and a "big win for the Firefox community." Andrew Fear, GeForce NOW director, notes that Firefox "earned its place" by meeting NVIDIA’s high standards for optimal streaming.

Mozilla also highlights the challenges of cloud gaming, particularly in terms of performance and bandwidth, as well as the need to balance these demands with Firefox’s core principles of privacy and user control.

12 new games available this week

Alongside this announcement, NVIDIA is adding 12 titles to its GeForce NOW library. These include Gallipoli (BlackMill Games), a 25-vs-25 war game inspired by World War I, released on Steam on August 20, 2026. Other new additions are Stars Reach and The Sinking City 2 (both released on August 18), as well as titles like High on Life 2 or Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered.

A logical extension for NVIDIA

This integration is part of NVIDIA’s strategy to make GeForce NOW accessible on as many platforms as possible. Firefox, though a minority browser (2.5% global market share in 2026), represents millions of users. The company also finalized the beta release of its native Linux app, announced a week earlier.

With Firefox, NVIDIA confirms its commitment to democratizing cloud gaming by removing hardware constraints. For players, it’s a new way to access over 2,000 games without investing in expensive hardware. It remains to be seen if other browsers will follow.
