Battlefield 6 launches a major update on August 18, 2026, featuring a Top Gun collaboration, two new aircraft, the Wake Island map, and new game modes. The game is free to play from August 18 to 25 to test these additions.
A Top Gun collaboration and two-seat aircraft
Season 4 of Battlefield 6, deployed on August 18, 2026, includes a phase dedicated to Top Gun. Two new two-seat fighters make their debut: the F-74A Seacat and the F/A-81F Super Spectre, inspired by the iconic aircraft from the film franchise. These vehicles are designed for aerial and naval combat, with handling tailored for large-scale battles.
Players can also embody characters from the movies, such as Lieutenant Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw (Miles Teller) or Admiral Solomon "Warlock" Bates (Charles Parnell).
Wake Island and two new game modes
The update reintroduces Wake Island, a historic map from the series, reimagined for Battlefield 6. This Pacific atoll setting combines land, naval, and aerial combat, with aircraft carriers as HQs and bunkers to capture. Boats control crossings, while mines and torpedoes block approaches.
Two game modes accompany this collaboration:
- Carrier Offensive: a battle where teams must destroy the enemy’s floating base by combining ground assaults and aerial bombings.
- Survival: Aerial Raid: a mode focused on aerial combat, with survival and destruction objectives.
The Carrier Offensive mode, inspired by the Titan mode from Battlefield 2142, allows players to capture missile batteries to target the enemy carrier. Once its defenses are breached, players can board to plant explosive charges inside.

A free trial week to test the new features
From August 18 to 25, 2026, Battlefield 6 is free to play on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series. The trial offers 4 maps (including Wake Island and Tsuru Reef) and up to 6 game modes, including the Top Gun event mode. To access it, players must download Battlefield REDSEC, the studio’s free battle royale.
This free period coincides with the launch of Season 4, running from July 21 to September 15, 2026. The Top Gun collaboration is time-limited, but its content (modes, aircraft, map) could be permanently integrated into the game based on player feedback.
With this update, Battlefield 6 is betting on aviation and naval combat to reignite player interest. The return of Wake Island, paired with the arrival of Top Gun, marks a key milestone for the game after a turbulent launch. The question remains whether these additions will become permanent or disappear after the event.
