Honor unveils Robot Phone with titanium gimbal and dual 200 MP cameras

Honor is launching its Robot Phone in China, a smartphone featuring a 4-axis titanium gimbal stabilizer and dual 200 MP cameras. Available from August 18, it targets professional video and content creators.

A titanium gimbal for stable, smooth videos

The Robot Phone integrates a 4-axis mechanical system called Honor Titanium Agile Gimbal. Developed through 60 manufacturing processes and protected by over 100 patents, this 2.6 g stabilizer enables rotations up to 360° per second. It combines a titanium motor and a fast-return steel motor, delivering a torque density of 120 N·m/L. The result: precise stabilization, even for fast-moving subjects, in a 9.59 mm-thick, 248 g body.

The mechanism also allows 90° or 180° rotations with a single gesture, as well as real-time subject tracking. Honor highlights its appeal for vloggers and content creators, with enhanced interaction via the smartphone’s AI assistant.

Dual 200 MP cameras and Arri partnership for cinema

The Robot Phone features three cameras: a gimbal-stabilized 200 MP main sensor (1/1.28-inch, f/1.6), a 200 MP periscope telephoto (1/1.4-inch, 2.7x optical zoom, f/2.6), and a 50 MP ultra-wide (122° field of view).

The partnership with Arri, a professional camera specialist, brings high-end video features: LogC3 encoding (10-bit, 4:2:2), Wide Gamut 3 color space, and Looks (cinematic color styles) with real-time preview. “The future isn’t just about more pixels. It’s about control. It’s about giving creators the tools to capture beautiful images,” says David Bermbach, Arri’s product director.

Premium specs and pricing

The Robot Phone is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, assisted by a dedicated Honor H1 image processing chip. It features a 6.31-inch LTPO OLED display (FHD+, 1-120 Hz, 6,800 nits), a 7,060 mAh battery with 120 W wired and 50 W wireless charging. The device runs on Android 16.

Two configurations are available in China, with pre-orders open since August 13 and a release set for August 18. The starting price is 9,999 yuan, or approximately $1,500. Honor has not announced international availability yet.

What’s next? The Magic9 series in September

During the Robot Phone’s unveiling, Honor teased its Magic9 series, slated for a September 2026 launch. Rumors suggest a Magic9 Pro with dual 200 MP sensors (main and periscope telephoto), a 1/1.28-inch main sensor (f/1.57), and a 1/1.4-inch telephoto (f/2.6) with 3-axis optical stabilization. The Arri partnership would extend to this lineup, offering the same video features (LogC3, LUT, cinema mode).

With the Robot Phone, Honor targets a niche: content creators demanding top-tier stabilization and image quality. It’s a bold bet, with a high price tag and China-only availability. Whether this hybrid smartphone-video equipment format will appeal beyond early adopters remains to be seen.
