Gameplay sequences and animation clips from Star Wars: Magellan, a multiplayer action-RPG canceled in 2025, have been released by a former developer. The project, developed by Echtra Games for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, featured a shoot-and-loot system with classes like a Twi’lek Jedi or a Mandalorian.

The images, taken from the portfolio of an artist who worked on the title, reveal a third-person game where players embodied two main classes: a masked gunslinger (Triggerman) and a Twi’lek Jedi (Cleric). The gameplay relied on a mix of shooting, loot collection, and battles against Imperial enemies, from stormtroopers to giant droids.
The Jedi could use the Force to repel projectiles or hurl adversaries, while the Mandalorian relied on enhanced mobility via a jetpack, heavy weapons like a flamethrower, and gadgets (grenades, protective camps). Missions followed classic genre structures: locating targets, hacking networks, searching containers, with "Booster Gear" collected from defeated enemies.
An AAA project abandoned after Echtra Games’ closure
Star Wars: Magellan was being developed in Unreal Engine 5 by Echtra Games, a studio acquired by Zynga in 2021. The project, confirmed in early 2021 in collaboration with NaturalMotion (another Zynga subsidiary), remained confidential until the studio’s abrupt closure in June 2025. This decision was part of a "strategic realignment" by Zynga and Take-Two Interactive, ending all ongoing projects.
The game was also set to include a "NPC bonding" system to unlock additional interactions with companions. Despite its ambition, Magellan joins the list of canceled Star Wars titles, such as Project Ragtag or Star Wars 1313.

Echtra Games: a studio with a mixed track record
Founded by former Blizzard developers, Echtra Games released Torchlight 3 in 2020 before being acquired by Zynga. Based in San Francisco, the studio never released a title under Zynga’s ownership. Its last project, Magellan, was intended to follow Star Wars Hunters, an arena shooter already published by Zynga.
These images offer a glimpse of what the studio could have delivered but also confirm the abandonment of a project that, despite its potential, never saw the light of day. The Star Wars galaxy, however, continues to evolve with other announcements, such as the second season of Ahsoka or the Starfighter film planned for 2027.
