CD PROJEKT RED announces The Witcher 3 Remastered, a modernized and free version for owners of the original game. Release is set for September 29, 2026 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
A free and comprehensive update
The remastered version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt arrives with major graphical and technical improvements. Textures have been reworked for environments, NPCs, and monsters, lighting and ray tracing have been redesigned, and vegetation is more detailed: the Continent gains depth. Combat features revised animations, new brutal executions, and an adaptive camera for more dynamism. The skill system has been completely overhauled, offering more flexible and intuitive progression.
Other notable additions include transmogrification (to customize the appearance of weapons and armor without sacrificing stats), an expanded photo mode, cross-platform mod support (including on Xbox Series X|S), and Xbox Play Anywhere for continuity between PC and Microsoft console.
Free for all, expansions included
The remaster is free for owners of The Witcher 3 on Xbox Series X|S. Additional surprise: players who only own the base edition will automatically receive both expansions Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, including on Xbox One. Digital versions will see the expansions added to their library, while physical copy owners can claim them for free via the Store.
Availability and platforms
The remaster will release on September 29, 2026 on PC (Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, Battle.net), PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. A native version is also announced for the Nintendo Switch 2, with pre-orders already open. The remaster’s improvements will also apply to Songs of the Past, the new expansion planned for 2027.

Songs of the Past: A preview in 2027
The Songs of the Past expansion will take Geralt to the new region of Letten, an idyllic land with rural traditions, but where an ancient threat lurks. The Witcher will face new monsters and wield a new weapon: the chain, inspired by the intro cinematic of the first The Witcher. This expansion will release in 2027 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
CD PROJEKT RED also confirms that The Witcher 4, focused on Ciri, is targeting a 2028 release. Over 500 developers are working on it, aiming for an immersive open world and an ambitious story.
